Four Questions Asked by Jews to Imam Ali (a.s.)

Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.)

Imam Ali (a.s.) was always available when the three kholafa sought his advice on religious matters. His position as the jurist was on the top of the list among the companions of the Holy Prophet (saw). Umar Ibne Khattab (l.a.) the 2nd Caliph had given clear instructions that when Ali was present in the mosque of the Prophet no one should take precedence over him in answering questions on religious matters. In one such encounter during the time of the 2nd Caliph, a group of Jewish scholars approached the caliph and said, “We have a few questions. If we get the answers to these questions correctly, we will accept the Islamic faith.
“Ask whatever you want to ask,” said the caliph.
They asked the following questions:
1. What are the locks and keys of heaven?
2. Who was the messenger who was neither of the human nor of the Jinn and who warned his people?
3. Which are the 5 beings who were created without ! the aid of ovaries?
4. What are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven and twelve?
The caliph thought over these questions for a time, then said, “I do not know the answers to these questions. I will take you to a man who is most knowledgeable in the commandments of Allah and the Holy Prophet and the greatest among us.
The caliph then brought the Jewish scholars to Ali (a.s.). They asked the same questions to him. Ali (a.s.) answered thus:
1. The locks of the heavens are beliefs in more than one god, and its keys are the letters of “La Ilaha Illallah, Muhammad-Ur-Rasulallah.”
2. The messenger who warned his people is the ant who, when Solomon’s army was passing by, said to his people, ” Enter your houses so that the army may not stamp you out (without intention)”. So Allah states in the Holy Qur’an, ” Until they came to the valley of the Ants, said an ant (addressing the other ants of the valley) O” you ants’ enter into! your dwellings, so that Solomon and his hosts may not crush you while they know it not”. (Sura An-Naml. V 18)
3. The five beings who were not born of ovaries are: Adam, Eve, the staff of Moses which used to change into a python, the camel of Saleh, and the sheep of Ibrahim (which was sent by Allah to become a ransom of the life of Ibrahim’s son Ismael).
4.
One is Allah who has no partners,
  • two are Adam and Eve,
  • three are the substances ( i.e. non-living matter, plants and animals),
  • four are the Heavenly books: Torah of Moses, Bible of Jesus, Zubur of Dawood and the Qur’an of Hadhrat Muhammad (saw).
  • Five are the daily prayers.
  • Six are the days of creation of the heavens and earth, as per the verse of the Qur’an: ” And indeed We created the heavens and the earth and what is between them two, in six periods and touched us not any fatigue.” (Sura Qaf V. 38).
  • Seven are the seven heavens, in the light of the Qur’anic Verse: ” And we have erected above you the seven strong ones.” (Sura An-Naba V12)
  • Eight are those angels who bear the heavens, as per the Qur’anic Verse: ” And the angels shall be on the side of it; and above them shall bear that day `Arsh’ (the throne of authority). of your Lord, eight of them (Sura Al-Haaqqah. V.17)
  • Nine are the nine signs given to Moses as stated by God: “And indeed we gave Moses nine clear signs (miracles); so ask the children of Israel when he came to them, Pharaoh said to him; “Verily I deem you O’ Moses one bewitched. “(Sura Bani Israel, V 101).
  • Ten are the ten days, i.e. God had promised Moses that he would stay on the mountain of Toor for thirty days, and later added ten more days to this duration, as it is stated in the Qur’an.” And we made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and completed it with ten more;” Thus was completed the term of his Lord, forty nights, and (before he went up) Moses said to his brother Aaron: You take my place among my people, act rightly and follow not the path of the mischief-makers.” (Sura Al-A’araf. V.142).
  • Eleven are the brothers of Joseph, son of Jacob, as the Qur’an states, “When said Joseph to his father, O’ my father; Verily I did see (dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon,, I saw them all prostrating to me.” (Sura Yousuf. V.4).
  • Twelve are the Twelve water-springs manifested by the staff of Moses, as God states, ” And (remember) when Moses sought water for his people; said We, `Strike the rock with your staff’ Then gushed out therefrom twelve springs; each people knew their drinking place; “Eat and drink from God’s provision, and commit not evil in the earth acting mischievously. “(Sura Al Baqarah V60).
When the Jewish scholars heard the replies of Hazrat Ali (a.s.) they said, “We bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (saw) is His Messenger and Ali (a.s.) is the “Wasi” and successor of the Messenger of Allah as Aaron was the Wasi of Moses. They all embraced Islam, went back to their tribe and converted all of them to Islam.

Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Jawad (a.s.)

Name: Muhammad
Title: At-Taqi, Al-Jawad
Designation: 9th Imam
Kunyat: Abu Ja'far
Father: 8th Imam Ali ar-Ridha (A.S.)
Mother: Khaizuran Khatoon
Born: 10th Rajab 195 AH (811 AD)
Died: 29th Dhul-Qida 220AH(835AD)
Martyred: Poisoned by Mu'tasin (l.a.)

Hazrat Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S , our 9th holy Imam , was born in Madina on Friday on the 10th of Rajab-ul-Murajjab. There is one more rewayat about the birth of date of our 9th Imam. The second birthdate has been mentioned in the Book of Bihar-ul-Anwar vol.nr.9 , where Allama Majlisi says: " It is written in Usol-e-Kafi that Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was born in the holy month of Ramazan in 195 A.H." But the rewayat of 10th of Rajab is mostly wellknown.

Anyhow the 9th successor of the Holy Prophet S.A.W was born in Madina-e-Munawwara. His holy father was Ghareeb-ul-Ghuruba , Shaheed-e-Jafa Hazrat Imam Ali Raza A.S and His holy mother was Janabe Khizran who was connected to the tribe of Ummul-Momeneen Janabe Marya-e-Qibteya. Sabeeka Naubiya is also another name of the holy mother of our 9th Imam.

Imam Ali Raza A.S was 47 years old when His holy and only son was born. People in Madina had began to fear that Imam Ali Raza A.S would leave no successor after Him and that the chain of Imamat would be cut off. But when Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was born their mouth were shut.

In 200 A.H Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was forced to be separated from His holy father when Mamoon Rashid compelled Imam Ali Raza A.S to leave Madina alone without His family. After this seperation Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was never able to see His father again. In 203 A.H Imam Ali Raza A.S departured from this world. The Imamat was now handed over to His holy son who was only 8 years when He received the responsibilities. The life of Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was early attacked with many deep sorrows .

At the age of 5 His father Imam Ali Raza A.S , was constrained to leave him alone in Madina and was martyred the third year after this seperation. The grief of the martyrdom of His holy father was followed by the demise of His holy aunt (Phophi) Janabe Masooma-e-Qum. And soon Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was also forced to leave the city of Madina.

Many wonders that due to the short life Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S spent with His holy father maybe He wasn't able to receive the full knowledge. Shame on those who have these thoughts. All our holy Imams are born with the full Divine knowledge granted from Allah. That is why Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was always triumphant to all competitors who tried to emulate Him. And it was due to this extraordinary knowledge of Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S and His excellent character that Mamoon Rashid became the Imam's "lover" with a plan of marrying his daughter Umm-ul-Fazl to Him.

The scenes he was dreaming about was to one day watch the progeny of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa S.A.W i.e the next Imam to be born through his daughter. But once again Mamoon failed in his luring acts and his daughter never became a mother. A year after this wedding Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S returned to Madina where He remarried to Janabe Somaana Khatoon who was connected to the tribe of Hazrat Ammar-e-Yasir and it was through this pious lady that God had chosen for the next Imam to be born. Imam Muhammad Taqi A.S was gifted with two sons ,(Hazrat Imam Ali Naqi A.S and Janabe Moosa-e-Mubarraqa) and two daughters (Janabe Fatema and Janabe Amama). The offspring of Imam Ali Naqi A.S are titled as "Naqvi" and the progeny of Janabe Moosa-e-Mubarraqa are named as "Rizvi".

At last I would like to send happy greetings to all momeneen and momenaat on this joyous day. May we live our lives as our holy Imams has shown us to do and try our best to serve Islam in all ways. Finally , may Imam-e-Zamana A.S also accept the greetings from His male (ghulaman) and female (kanizan) servants. Ameen
Rabbana Taqabbal Minna Innaka Anta-s-Samey-ul-Aleem.

RAJAB

Rajab Shaban and Ramdhan are the months of great Fazilath. Mohammad Sallallah -u-Alehi Wa Alehi Wa Sallam(P.B.U.H) said "That the month of Rajab is very great and no other month could reach to the Ihtheram (respect) and Fazilath of this month. Battle with  kuffar is haram in this month. Rajab is Allah's month. Shaban is my month and Ramadhan is my Ummah's month. Whoever fasts for a day in this month Allah will keep Azaab ( punishment ) away from him and  he will  please Allah, and one of the many doors of hell will be closed on him".

Imam Mose-E-Kazim (A.S) said that whoever fasts for a day in Rajab the fire of hell will be kept away from him for at least the distance of a year. And if a person fasts for three days then Jannath (Heaven) will be wajib on him.

Rasule-Khuda (peace be upon him) said That Rajab is a name of a stream in Heaven, which is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. And if any person fasts for a day in this month he will drink water from this stream.

Imam Jafar-E-Sadiq (A.S) said that Rasule-Khuda (peace be upon him)  said that this month of Rajab is the month of Asthaqgfar for my Ummah. Thus ask for Allah's forgiveness for our sins in this Mubarak month. Allah is most forgiving and most merciful. And the other name for Rajab is Asabb because Allah's Rehmath on Ummah is more in this month, so one should recite Astaghfirullah Wa Asalhut Tawbah a lot.

Imam Jafar-E-Sadiq (A.S) said whoever keeps one fast in the last days of Rajab, Allah will save him from the hardship of dying (sakrath-e-moth) and from  azaab-e-moth. And if a person fasts on  the  last two days of Rajab, he will pass Pul-E-Sirath with ease. And if a person fasts on the last three days he will be saved from the khawf of Qayamath and hardships of this day and will be saved from hell.

Imam Zainul Abideen (A.S) said if a person cannot keep fast in this month he should recite the following Tasbeeh:

Subhan-al illahil Jaleeli Subhana mal-la yanbaghit tasbeehu illa lahu Subhanal a-aazzil akrami subhana mal laisal izza wa-hua- lahu ahl.
